Description: Limited vinyl LP repressing of this 1967 album. Albert Ayler In Greenwich Village is Ayler's first Impulse set. There are two selections apiece from a pair of live appearances with Ayler having a rare outing on alto on the emotional "For John Coltrane" and the more violent "Change Has Come" while backed by cellist Joel Friedman, both Alan Silva and Bill Folwell on basses and drummer Beaver Harris. The other set features trumpeter Donald Ayler, violinist Michel Sampson, Folwell and Henry Grimes on basses and Harris. Unusually, Ayler plays alto rather than his usual tenor on the opening track, a tribute to Coltrane, who was present when the two tracks on side two of the album were recorded. The two versions of Ayler's band heard on the record both feature two bass players, which "sharpens the sound considerably, producing a rock-solid foundation for Ayler's raw witness". Format: VINYL LP Label: Impulse Records Genre: Jazz Country: NULL Tracks: 1.1 For John Coltrane (Side A) 1.2 Change Has Come (Side A) 1.3 Truth Is Marching in (Side B) 1.4 Our Prayer (Side B)
